Has anyone told Marjorie Taylor Greene that AOC is from the Bronx… and Puerto Rican and a Puerto Rican from the Bronx. By all means, “choose violence” then “large-marge” I don’t think it’ll go how you want.https://www.cnn.com/2021/05/13/politics/marjorie-taylor-greene-aoc-house-chamber/index.html

Black Mirror S5 was good but “Striking Vipers” Gave Us All ‘Feelings’ http://mimimccollough.com/2019/06/12/black-mirror-s5-was-good-but-striking-vipers-gave-us-all-feelings/ http://mimimccollough.com/2019/06/12/black-mirror-s5-was-good-but-striking-vipers-gave-us-all-feelings/#respond Wed, 12 Jun 2019 01:53:19 +0000 http://mimimccollough.com/?p=216

n today’s episode, we give our takes on Black Mirror, Season 5. Overall, good per usual, but episode 1, “Striking Vipers” was the standout. It had the whole crew in their thoughts about what it expressed on sexuality, black masculinity, gender, attraction and relationships. The season had us wondering if you can catch a virtual reality STD; discussing our addictions to social media; and Mel telling us about that one time when she kicked that untrustworthy chick “Alexa” out her house. Mel and MiMi prove once more you never get too old to be immature about “peen” and Marcus wants to make a correction from last week.

What the Boston “Straight Pride” Parade means to me… http://mimimccollough.com/2019/06/06/what-the-boston-straight-pride-parade-means-to-me/ http://mimimccollough.com/2019/06/06/what-the-boston-straight-pride-parade-means-to-me/#respond Thu, 06 Jun 2019 18:54:28 +0000 http://mimimccollough.com/?p=208 It must be something to be the center of a narrative for SOOOOO long, that when “the other” starts to ask for a little more visibility, you pitch a colossal temper tantrum like a three-year-old girl. So is the story of the CIS-gendered, Christian, white male in America today, pretty much since that black family happened in 2008. The tantrum was and continues to be so severe, these men — most of whom are poor and working class — actually put a Trump in office who is the antithesis of their economic and healthful well-being. But hey, he’s a “man’s, man” which essentially means being a womanizer, anti-academia, anti-logic, anti-kale, and pro cowboy sh*t. But enough about Emperor Nero. This is about Mark Sahady who is planning, along with three other bros to have a straight pride parade in Boston. Did he learn nothing from the fiasco that was Seattle’s “Straight Pride” parade from a few years ago? It goes without saying that he got ripped apart via the interwebs, including the marvelous clap-backs from the link above. I don’t have much time to dedicate to this idiocy, but I wanted to add a couple of thoughts of my own on this “event”.

What the Boston Straight Pride Parade means to me:

  1. Bunch of dudes perpetually arguing over Pardon the Interruption
  2. Same as Gay Pride parade except awful
  3. A color palette theme of brick, camouflage and “repressed” piss yellow
  4. Bros planning events to prove and then admire the most well-endowed among them (Did I mention the “repressed” piss yellow?)
  5. I thought the quintessential “straight” pride parade was every weekend when Brad and friends are escorted out of the local pub for fighting over who’s QB “gave it to” the “Tight End” in a “spread offense” the best. Hey wait a minute… [innuendo]
  6. A bunch of dudes who ever really only wanted to be at the bottom of the pile anyway
  7. Pretty sure literally every single other parade you can name not specifically called gay pride IS a friggin’ straight pride parade

Our “Ma” and “When They See Us” Review http://mimimccollough.com/2019/06/06/our-ma-and-when-they-see-us-review/ http://mimimccollough.com/2019/06/06/our-ma-and-when-they-see-us-review/#respond Thu, 06 Jun 2019 15:18:46 +0000 http://mimimccollough.com/?p=201 New episode! https://www.podbean.com/eu/pb-h7ctp-b39311

Today we discuss the movie “Ma” and the Netflix series “When They See Us”. “Ma” ended up being “Carrie” but WITHOUT the logic, great narrative and with tons of plotholes (but “crazy” Octavia was fun to watch). Also, Ava DuVernay’s “When They See Us” is brilliant with superb acting all around even though it is a story that is hard to watch. And, the irony that Felicity Huffman plays Linda Fairstein. No desserts today, but want to shout out Raymond Santana’s clothing line Park Madison NYC x R. Santana

In today’s episode, we talk the final episode EVER of Game of Thrones. The discussion was lively. We talked about things we liked and ALL the things we didn’t. Sweet Robin’s Glow up was amazing. Yara vs. Arya was the fight we all deserved instead of Jamie/Euron. Jon Snow could learn from George W. Bush and what Brienne ACTUALLY wrote on Jamie’s King’s Guard page. What if we treated gun purchases like abortion? http://mimimccollough.com/2019/05/10/what-if-we-treated-gun-purchases-like-abortion/ http://mimimccollough.com/2019/05/10/what-if-we-treated-gun-purchases-like-abortion/#respond Fri, 10 May 2019 14:41:25 +0000 http://mimimccollough.com/?p=197 “I was gonna go down fighting…”

The above is a quote from 12-year-old Nate Holley in the wake of yet another school shooting in America this week. The sixth-grader already has more courage than any Conservative in Congress right now.

It’s embarrassing that we’ve allowed the defense of our classrooms to come down to 12-year-olds and teachers because we’re unwilling to make an actual stance towards gun control.

The majority of people who lobby for gun control aren’t lobbying to “take your guns away”. The majority of gun owners want certain gun restrictions. How about we start doing sensible things like say, NOT selling arms which were confiscated in crimes, putting them back out in circulation. It would be great let’s say if we can start limiting the sale of certain types of weapons or at least make it as difficult to buy them as we’re trying to make access to abortions.

This week, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed one of the most restrictive abortion bills in the nation. It essentially specifies that when a heartbeat can be detected, then an abortion can no longer take place legally or face prison time. But a heartbeat can be detected as early as six weeks, meaning if you miss one period, and just find out you’re pregnant at all, it’s too late to make a decision on it. Alabama is also working on legislation that almost outright bans abortion. Republicans open attack on women’s productive rights comes from a place of trying to deter abortions by making them as difficult as possible to get. To them, restricting abortions won’t stop all of them, but it’ll “save enough babies” that it’s worth it.

But for some strange reason, they can’t apply that same rationale with why many people want gun control laws passed. We know gun control legislation won’t stop all shootings, but if we make it more difficult to gain access to them, it’ll save enough babies, children, and adults, that it’s worth it.

They hold their right to own an AR-15 just because they want one and their self-determination with more reverence than a woman’s right for self-determination and a nation’s classrooms’ and public spaces’ right to be free of mass shootings.

As the saying goes, “Republicans love the fetus but hate the child”.

We talk episode 2, season 8 of Game of Thrones. How Daenarys’ visions/prophecies probably predict the ending; Arya had the right idea; the Starks are the Rose Nylunds of the North; and how this whole story is the Butterfly Effect. Never seen Game of Thrones? Watch the Democratic Primaries. Same thing. http://mimimccollough.com/2019/04/10/got-democratic-primaries/ http://mimimccollough.com/2019/04/10/got-democratic-primaries/#respond Wed, 10 Apr 2019 15:59:00 +0000 http://mimimccollough.com/?p=177 Next week will be a date I’ve been waiting on for nearly 2 years — the season premiere of the final season of Game of Thrones. Anyone who knows me, knows I’m nose deep in this story. I have been since the series premiered in 2011. I mean, I do a friggin’ podcast about it (proud plug). I was captivated immediately by the characters, the storylines and lore so rich it almost feels like actual world history. The thing I love most about it though, is how it reflects our current politics so much.

I won’t get into the heavy details of that, but suffice it to say that ever since the show started, I and many others have been able to correlate many parts of it or some character in it with whatever was going on politically at the moment and sometimes the parallels the “New Gods” (the internet) gave us were hilariously spot-on. George R.R. Martin, the author of the books the TV show were adapted from, has essentially said the same thing with regards to real-world politics.

Last week comedian and writer Dana Gould, sent out this tweet about the Democratic candidates for the 2020 presidential election.

Ain’t that it, just like my show. You have on the “good side” a bunch of flawed leaders, each with their own issues, but each with his/her own fanbase who can find and nitpick every single flaw in an opposing candidate while missing the same flaws and issues with “their guy”. And in the process of alllll that infighting, the real evil doers just ride right on through and take everything we claimed to truly hold dear. Imbeciles. See, that right there is enough to make you yell “Team Cersei!” cause at least that chick knows how to win.

That tweet was so accurate. It reflected things I’ve been saying since 2016 actually. The litmus test to get the approval within the Left’s silo is so stupid and ridiculous. No one is going to be able to be all the things to all the people and do so flawlessly for decades at a time, while doing so in the public specter, while also in the midst of trying to defeat adversaries in the context of changing dynamics, while consistently trying to raise enough money to compete against the “Iron Bank” that is the GOP, every election cycle. “No one”. Nobody. The inability of Liberals to grasp that and unify behind a good but inevitably flawed-in-some-way-candidate whoever that may be, is the stuff preschool fights over which story to read are made of. Not everyone is gonna be happy with whichever story is chosen, but you gotta admit, any story at this point beats anything Miss DJ Trunchbull has in mind (would literally be the chokey).

And this isn’t even the worn out argument over not picking between the “lesser of two evils”. That entire notion is noble, but it’s based around some far fetched idea that there ever was such a thing as a completely virtuous, “Unsullied” 🙂 human being to run for any position in the first place. To return back to my preschool analogy — that’s a fairytale to begin with. We’re too grown to be outchea subscribing to it.

Everyone in the Democrats’ camp is essentially running on the same platform with a few variations as to how to roll out and fund programs here or there. We have three branches of government and we have state houses. So at the end of the day, the vote for president is a vote for an ideology and an agenda that is supported by the buttresses and arches of the OTHER representatives we send to the Senate and the House. And these things can get further support by the folks we vote for in state House races. Do you know why the legalization of marijuana is closer to reality than its ever been? Because STATES started to legalize it, one-by-one until eventually, it began the process of bringing the “wall down” of obstruction to it (although there’s still a long way to go). https://www.fool.com/investing/2018/09/23/timeline-for-marijuana-legalization-in-the-united.aspx

In other words, you don’t need the perfect figure-head in a democracy. You need a leader who’ll present the agenda you want and you… WE have to surround that person with the support needed in Congress to help move that agenda along.

We really have to get a grip on how voting for personalities instead of voting for overall agendas is to our complete detriment. And so is waiting for the perfect mix of Black-Muslim-Openly Gay-Strong-Male-Female-Jesus-Agnostic-Daenarys-Ned-Aegon-Targaryen-Tyrion-Stark as the candidate before we feel “comfortable” enough to cast our vote.
